In the full game, the basement appears to be an ordinary room at the bottom of the stairs, containing boxes, a boiler and a washing machine. The chair can simply be removed, but the keycard is frozen in a block of ice inside the Neighbor's freezer, and the crowbar is hidden somewhere on the third floor and heated with electricity. In its current appearance, the basement door is a brown wooden door, which is keycard-controlled, nailed with two boards, and as of the first Beta, propped shut with a chair. In Alpha 2, the basement door looked like a large metal door that could be opened with a valve, and was blocked with only one wooden board, but had a key-card reader in place of a number pad. This method would become the default for future versions. Additionally, the player had to remove the individual nails instead of just clicking the boards.

In Alpha 1, there was no keypad, and there were two wooden boards instead of just one. Additionally, in the Pre-Alpha and first two Alphas, the crowbar could be used to remove boards from windows. In the Pre-Alpha, the basement door was a white wooden door blocked with a wooden board, and sealed with a padlock and number keypad. From Alpha 3 onwards, the board functions the same, but there are two boards instead of just one. In the Pre-Alpha, a single click would remove the board, but in Alphas 1 and 2, the board had four nails that need to be removed instead. It can be accessed via the stairs behind the large painting, and the crowbar only cools off after an amount of time has passed. In Beta 3, the crowbar is instead in a switchbox located in the blue key room.

It could be cooled off with the watering can. In Alpha 3, the crowbar was attached to a post, but between Alpha 4 and Beta 2, it was attached to the wall, and heated with electricity. Between Alpha 3 and Beta 2, the crowbar could be found in the room with a hole in the roof that is accessed with the blue key.

One was found in the storeroom which required the player to steal the red key from the Neighbor and one was on top of the TV aerial on the roof. Alpha 2 is the only version which had more than one crowbar. In Alpha 1 the crowbar was under the bed in the Neighbor's bedroom. In the Pre-Alpha, there was one crowbar, which could be found in either the wardrobe located in the Neighbor's backyard or the garage. The crowbar allows the player to access the Basement, by removing wooden boards much like the Hammer. The Crowbar is a key item in Hello Neighbor. The crowbar as seen in the Alpha 2 Tool Room
